Do I pay import duties?

That depends on your location.

If you’re shopping from outside the European Union (EU), your prices do not include European VAT. That means what you pay at checkout is already lower to begin with.

Your order may also be subject to import duties, local taxes, and handling fees when it enters your country. These are charged by local customs authorities and are your responsibility to pay.

For US orders, Weirloom ships DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), which means I cover the import tariffs. Local taxes or state-level charges may still apply.

THE INSPIRATION

A red beanie I'd worn for years

I've been wearing the same red Heimat Mechanics hat for at least five years. It was a gift from Heimat I got around the time Brund in Copenhagen started stocking the bramd.

I've worn it a lot. Outside during autumn and winter, often indoors too. I'm really a hat guy—and sometimes I simply can't be bothered to do my hair.

So when I started thinking about making a beanie for Weirloom, I already knew who I wanted to make it.

THE IDEA

Why not make one for Weirloom?

In January 2026, I ran into Christian and Gemma, the people behind Heimat, at the Union trade show in Berlin. I've known them for years, and the idea came up almost spontaneously.

My pitch was pretty simple: I've been wearing your beanies for years, so why don't you make one for Weirloom?

They liked the idea, and we got to work.

INSPIRED BY DENIM

Two shades of blue wool

I wanted something that looked like denim. We went with two different shades of blue yarn, knitted together to create a melange effect, and added a custom label with a red detail inspired by the selvedge ID on a pair of jeans.

We've made just 25 pieces, launching at Brund on November 5 as part of Denimhunters' 15th-anniversary celebration.

It feels fitting to launch the collaboration at the shop where my own Heimat story began.
